Any experience out there with the Pace Edwards products generally and the BedLocker Electric Retractable Tonneau Cover specifically? Thanks

 

I have a buddy who has a roll n lock on a F-250 and he loves it. I'm not sure about this one, but I would like to have one also.

 

you guys have peaked my interest. i've never heard of a tonneu cover that retracts lik this. anyone got a link? i'd like to explore this as an option for mine.

EDIT: I found the Pace-Edwards site and I am very interested in this. I am starting to get the idea that owning a truck is going to be expensive because I am going to love adding things to it. damn it, i should have bought another Vovlo...

 

That is a very cool site. I saw my first one a few years ago, and have had it stuck in my mind since. Your typical cover can be a problem if you have to load up something tall while you're "out and about". Nothing looks stupider than having a cover sticking up in the air while driving...probably none too safe either. This seems to be the best of two worlds....open bed, and covered.


Wonder what the price tag is?

 

i called and the electric retractable BedLocker is about $1400. the manual one (i think it is called JackRabbit or something) is about $750. this was for a 2004 F150 Scab with 6.5' bed.

i inquired about the electric one and they said it takes up space on the cab side of the bed. about 12 inches down from the top of the bed rail and about 10 inches out from the back wall of the bed. the electric box goes across the entire width of the truck bed, so it is like having a small toolbox in the truck bed. it's made of aluminum and has rails mounted alond the inside edge of the bed. i am going to check one out at a local dealer this week, if she ever calls me back. call the customer service number at Pace Edwards, they were really helpful.

So i went to a shop today to check out the Pace Edwards electric and manual tonneaus. i was not impressed with the manual one at all. vinyl covered aluminum boards. it was weak. not worth $700. the electric one however (BedLocker) was awesome! it is quick to open and close and strong. i like it. no drilling to mount it. it has four clamps that hold it in place and even has a drainage system for when you roll up the cover and the cover has water on it (you gotta see it to understand). verfy well done.

the only thing that concerns me is that one of the trucks at this shop had the BedLocker on it and it went kind of slow and kept changing speeds, like the drive system was worn out. it was as GMC Sierra 2500HD with an 8 foot bed. the tonneau cover was huge because the bed is freakin huge. i'm sure it was heay for the motor. it was the shop truck with all the logos on it and they take it to SEMA and all kinds of shows. the lady from the shop said it gets opened and closed for 8 hours a day at shows. she wouldn't not acknowledge it was worn and moving in kind of a tired fashion. either way, these electric tonneau covers we VERY impressive. i am so tempted to get one of these.

EDIT: forgot to mention that the remote opening is pretty sweet. you can also wire the door locks. and, you can even get a power remote tailgate lock. so sweet...

 

So, it sounds like there would still be room under the unit to get my Harleys front tire up against the cab. Did that look to be the case?

 

I've got a few pics of my retrax after installation in my gallery. The Retrax is a great product. It's not completly waterproof, but then again, they don't advertise it to be so. Water only comes in at the front and rear of the bed and usually exits the weep holes right away. Things I put in the center of the bed have always remained dry even with a pressure washer going after it.

the one thing I noticed about the Retrax that sort of turns me off to it is how high it sits above the rail. the BedLocker sits level with the rail. the only thing that should on top is a black rail cover that is flush with the rail. also, the box that the cover rolls up into is does not stick up above the rail at all. the cover is flush. i think it looks really smooth.

 

yeah, i think so. you could always simulate this by putting the harley in the bed and measuring how much space you have from the rail down. it really fits in the bed like a small toolbox with space under it. if you have a 12"x12" (just to be generous with the space) are across the top of the cab side of your truck bed, you'll be all good.

 

Anyone else have any insight on the roll n lock? That is the one I'm thinking about, It seems to be better built than the pace edwards. Don't really need a light in the bed & if I did I could rig something up I guess. More plastic is used on the pace edwards than the roll n lock from what I've been told.

I'm also trying to decide on which bedliner to go with. It's between the pendaliner & the bedrug. If the pendaliner won't have to be modified (cut) for the roll n lock to fit, that's what I'll use. If not, bedrug it is (pending wife's approval).

It's fun modding the wife's new toy I just won't go quite as far as I did with the Cobra.
