I saw a post where someone mentioned being able to order '04's thru April, perhaps May. That doesn't seem to make any sense. I would assume you could order an '04 right up until Aug./Sept. or so when the '05's would start coming out.

Am I in the ballpark with this, or am I totally off base?

 

Well CometFlash you are not in the ballpark (no offense intended). There are always changes from one year to the next be that colors, options, packages, etc. Coming out with a complete new model often requires major modifications to the physical plant although that is not as it once was due to technology deployed in today’s modern plant. Some of the guys who post on this site work in the plants and can provide pages of details but the bottom line is that the plants have to have model change over and that means a cut off date for one model year and a start up for the next. Model cut offs usually happen in late spring or very early summer while start up happens in mid summer to early fall.

I have ordered 5 new Fords over the past 7 years. Three were ordered during the Spring/Summer period. The dealer usually had to have his orders for the current model year in by the end of May, early June time period. After that he could only order the upcoming model year. I have waited till June to order just to get the new model.
