Cool Nerf Bars vs Running Boards

Greetings,

New Member, first Ford, 2004 FX4 SCAB, enjoy this group.

Anybody have a lead on aftermarket nerf bars for a 2004?
I am looking for no drill, black stainless steel oval bars. Would consider running boards as a last resort.

Thanks in advance.
Best regards.

What about trying your dealer? I've been told that Ford offers has a 4" and 5" diameter aluminum step bar as anaccessory, in either a black or chrome finish.

Living in the snow belt, I'm a big fan of their aluminum bars since that's what they've been using from the factory for many years now, and I've yet to see any damaged from road salt.

Factory Running boards

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I have seen the Ford factory bars. Has anyone purchased the Ford factory running boards for the 2004? If so can you post pictures?
I contacted Westin they have been shipping nerf bars for the 2004 SCAB for a couple of weeks.

Quote from Westin:

"They have both been in production for about 2 weeks, we have begun shipping these products."
26-2340 – Chrome

26-2345 – Black

I live in the snow belt also and the boards may keep salt and debris out of the door seam.

Best regards,

It's the chrome tubular step bars.

interesting. i thought those were just called chrome tubular running boards, but i guess that wouldn't make sense since they are tubular and not flat and therefore not 'boards' at all. thanks.

although now i've found Ford contradicts my logic. they list the optional side steps (whatever we decide to call them) as:

Polished Chrome Tubular Running Boards.

which one is it? tubular? board? nerf?

Typically the running boards are one solid piece with no gap between the board and the body. Bars, are usually just that, a bar that mounts near the body, but doesn't actually touch it.

Some people like the boards better because the upper surface usually stays clean when going through mud and water. The bars tend to get dirty and if you're not careful, you can soil your clothes when entering/exiting.

Different on the XLT and Lariat?

So the chrome tube running boards are different on the XLT and the Lariat? I have seen two different types. The ones on the XLT are not round but more of a triangle shaped and the ones on the Lariat are round. Can anyone verify this?

I got the nerf bars. they are oval in shape and are pretty good. I've never gotten dirty getting in and out.
Check out the new adds on my gallery. they show the steps and they entailed no drilling.
