2 sizes on factory nerf bars??

I called my dealer the other day and was going to get him to order some chrome tubulars for my (hopefully soon to arrive) SCrew. He said, "Okay, do you want the 4" or the 5"?". I was like... "Uh, I'll have to get back to you..."

Has anybody else ran into this? Which ones come factory? More Importantly... which ones will look better??

Thanks

I see Andy didn't have much like getting a responce to this in September, but hopefully a few more people will have gone through this process by now. I just called and got the same question. What size are the bars I've been seeing in the galleries?

I've got the 5" chrome tubular (dealer ordered) on my Blue FX SCrew, and I think that they're "just right" for the truck. If anyone's interested I'll try and post some pictures. I ordered these sight unseen from the dealer (and also got asked the 4 or 5" question) and I'm glad I went for the 5" ones.

They are really more "oval" rather than round (which is what the word "tubular" evoked for me), and the 5" ones are just wide enough to comfortably step on. My wife is only 5"2 and for her, these made getting in and out of the truck much easier.

Looks like they have a third size. I have what is shown in the pictures posted as 5 inch. I ordered them after I bought the truck, direct from ford parts. But if you look at trucks on the dealers lots, that have them installed they don't have the curve in the bar at the front and rear. They are straight, and I would guess 4 inch.

I got the factory bright tubular, and they ave beautiful. Very different from all the ones posted thus far. I'll try to put pictures up very soon of them.

Dirty truck? What dirt??!! Now this is dirty!

Not only is my truck filthy, two of my new step bar brackets are peeling paint!

I just noticed this today and went straight to the parts department to get new ones. They are ordering me a new set of bars. This is a bit of a bummer seeing as they're are less than four weeks old with less than 900 miles on the truck. The brackets on my '01 step bars didn't have a scratch on 'em after three years!

Maybe I just got a bad set. I don't want to be laying on the ground to swap these things out every month in this weather.

Those of you who bought yours from the parts department may want to keep an eye on them.

Wow Clem, that sucks. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

OK, so it's not that dirty, although it does look worse in person . The sun only comes out about once a month this time of year; guess I'm just not used to seeing it in the daylight and dry.

Borg,

The weather has been so bad here that I have not washed mine even once since I got it on November 24. I'm usually a freak about that kind of stuff. The neighbors whisper about me when I'm washing my vehicles in 30 degree weather.

Tomorrow is supposed to be cold - a perfect opportunity to redeam myself!

I just had an aftermarket installer put on a set of stainless steel, chrome plated nerf bars on my 2004 supercrew and I love them. I especially love the fact that they are stainless and will not rust. They are manufactured by a company in Arizona. If anyone is interested in them, let me know and I will provide the company name and photos.
