Extended warranty pricing

For those with trucks and thinking about and extended warranty, I'd recomend looking now. Ford just posted the changes for 2004 that will start on October 1st. They don't give all the details so I can't say how much (I expect it won't be a large amount) but they said pricing will be going up.

from Ford's dealer website, I just quoted the part about pricing.
______________________________________
Pricing
• A price increase, the first since 2002, reflecting higher overall costs.
• Diesel pricing has been revised with many longer term/higher mileage plans lowered.
• Overall, RentalCARE and QCMPP plan pricing has not increased.
• Unique QCMPP pricing developed to wrap around 2004 Lincoln Complimentary Maintenance Plan.
--------------------------------------------------------------

So if your looking at ESP, shoot me an email and I can get you a price before the increase.

I'd like to get the Premium ESP, eventually, but wouldn't it kinda be a waste of money since everything's covered for 3/36k? I know it'll cost the same if it's bought now or then (aside from price increases) but is there a pro-rated plan that could be bought at the end of the factory warranty to extend it to 7/100k?

What are my options here?

The new vehicle warranty is factored into the price, the extended doesn't actually cover it until the factory warranty ends. Thats why its the same price (actually lower, its a $100 surcharge after 12 months or 12K miles) at the start or end of the factory warranty. For example:

F-150 4x4 Basecare ESP 5 years 60,000 mile new coverage. This extends the warranty 2 years and 24,000 miles. $50 deductable assuming you bought it when the car was new.

MSRP $870 My price $645

Now if you were buying a used 2004 F-150 4x4 with 36,000 miles (I know, humor me for this example) and added used basecare 2 yrs/24,000 miles and the $40 deductable option. This would be basically the same coverage as if bought originally (except tires get roadhazard coverage during original warranty (3/36).

MSRP $970 my price $830

So you can see the discount is already built into the price.

ok, so what is the cost of the Premuim Care ESP (with a low deductable)? I assume I'd add $100 to that price if purchasing during the end of the factory warranty, 3/36k.

WOW ! Why is there such a big price difference between 6/75k & 7/100k? (4x2, specifically) It looks like I'll probably do with 6/75, at some point.

I don't know how they come up with pricing, but it offten makes no sense. a 6/100 plan on a 4x2 is $1440 so it looks like 1/2 the price jump is for the 100K miles and the other 1/2 is for the 7th year.

just a random guess at the major increase from 75k to 100k is that might be when a majority of the expensive maintenance/wear items really start to go.

Talking

75,000 miles - 36,000 miles = 39,000 miles
$1,420 / 39,000 miles = 3.64 cents per mile

100,000 miles - 36,000 miles = 64,000 miles
$2,660 / 64,000 miles = 4.16 cents per mile
