Unhappy fx4 price

I had to change the order as the dealer processed my order as supercab instead of super crew.

Fx 4 - silver

moonroof, audiophite, 18 wheels, chrome tub bar, power RW and pedals, tow pack, black leather captain chairs, etc etc

I pretty much chose all the available options for FX4 and the price was 35400 before tax and other fee. The dealer said they only make 500 dollars off of this deal.

With all the fee included the price is 37500 or so.... I can still cancell as they said it is easy to sell. What do you think of this price??

With the way I was treated at the dealer, I was kind of pissed and started smelling Tundra 2004....

Should I cancell this order??

TIA

BS he's only making 500. Look at the invoice price. Most don't realize that even if you pay invoice the dealer still makes money. Ford gives a kick back based upon the number of units they sale. Therefore, if you order your truck, you increase the dealers sale numbers and he winds up making even more money.

BTW, if he has shafted you like that don't cancel the order. There is nothing that says you have to take the truck when it gets here. If you cancel that's one less he has to find some sucker to by. It hurts the dealer if they have excess inventory that they can't move.

Invoice price for a FX4 supercab styleside with every option would be about $33,000 including destination charge according to kbb.com . I think I would try another Ford dealer if there is one close by, or try doing a internet price quote from another dealer.

what many people do is price out the vehicle they want kbb.com and then fax or email proposals to a bunch of dealers saying, "this is what i want to order, this is what i will pay, who wants to sell it to me?" a buddy of mine bought his 1998 SCab that way. he also bought a Corvette like that. takes the hassle out of it and you get what you want. on the Vette he had to do 2 rounds of emails, so he ended up contacting about 13 dealerships, but 2 ended up agreeing to what he wanted. in Southern California 13 Ford or Chevy dealerships are within 20 miles of each other, but i'm not sure about where you're at. i will be taking this route when I buy my 2004 SCab.

That's not a bad idea. Here in Tulsa one company (Penske I think) kind of has a monopoly on Fords. Ford of Tulsa is the only Ford dealer I know of, but towns within about a 60 or 70 mi range have other dealers so it wouldn't be a big deal to drive a little to get a good price.

Thanks everyone.

I am sorry if my question was not clear.

I ordered a supercrew. The dealer ordered it wrong by ordering supercab and they apologized but said I was still in the -slot- that I did not waste my time by changeing the order.

The price on Ford Web says the invoice is about the price and there is 795 dest charge which brings the total price of about 35000 dollars. The guy told me that it will still take 4-6 weeks and I could cancel the order if I wanted to.

He also mentioned that he usually put 1500 dollars on top of invoice for the brand new car like this but said he brought it down to 500 as an apology for my incovenience....

I double checked the price with Ford Web again and total invoice for FX4 supercrew with all the options ( I mean everything ) was about 35000. I will end up paying 37500 or so if there is no rebate in the near future but the guy said we will likely see some kind of rebate at the time of delivery.

Please let me hear your opinion on whether I should contact other dealer or simply just wait... I am not American but Japanese who drove chevy for years.... and not really used to dealing with dealers for a brand new cars. Just for your info, in my country the car dealers treat you like a god or something. They will even visit you home and give you almost too much of follow ups to make you happy... so, I am not used to deal with the kind of businessmen here who mess up your order after you spent 2 hours at his desk to make sure you chose the right product. ( heck I even pointed out all the supercrew pictures on the brochre and all we talked about was the supercrew cab. yet one week later when you had to make numerous phone calls as they were busy, they finally tell you that they ordered supercab by mistake. And it was me who found this mistake by giving them a followup call...)

Thanks to all here on this board for sharing info. It is very helpful...

Maybe this will help. There is MSRP (Manufacture Suggested Retail Price) which is on the big Ford decal on the window and then there is the Dealer Invoice price of which you will most likely never see on the window.

My dealer has a 04 FX4 it has a MSRP of something like $32,740. The dealer is selling it at or a few hundred dollars below “Dealer Invoice” for the price of $28,500 or close to that price.

I just went to http://www.fordvehicles.com/ there you can build and price out the truck with all the options and it will give you both the MSRP and the dealer invoice. I went and built a 04 FX4 with about every option possible and the MSRP came to $38,265 and the dealer invoice comes to $33,439.

If you have a good dealer you can get the truck at invoice. The dealer invoice is where you should start for the price. At dealer invoice the dealer still makes money. Every dollar over “dealer invoice” is another dollar out of your pocket and in the dealer’s pocket.

Go to the web site above and select all your options and see what the price comes out to as far as MSRP and dealer invoice and there you will find if your getting a good deal.

Yep, I did check on the ford website.

Price for FX4 supercrew with all the options and accessories came to 40000 for MSRP and 35000 Invoice price.

Again, the dealer is asking me 500 on top of that but mentioned that I may get rebate at the time of delivery.

After reading many post on this forum, I am getting very curious about how the Ford company is dealing with customers. I see a lot of posts complaining about slow delivery ( as slow as 3+ month ) and I am little concerned about that.

It simply does not make sense to me trying to buy the car that does not exist for more price and end up having wait longer than the later customers, and yet there's no follow ups.... hmmmm

Maybe I must consider again about looking at silverado/tundra or whatever is available at the dealer slot and see if I like it. They are not only being available but also has good price especially if it's 2003 models.

Thanks and GLTA ( I am not as patient as some of you are on this forum )

I feel pretty good about my choice. I just compared an 03 with an 04 FX4 with everything I wanted and it came out better than I thought. A difference of $500 less for my 04 scince my dealer is giving me 1000 dollars off. Hopefully by the time I get my 04, I can get even more $s off.

No, I wish it was off the invoice. Off MSRP I belive.

I ordered an FX4, Supercab, Dark Shadow Grey
18 in wheels / Audiophile
Captain Chairs / Floorshifter
Tubular Running Boards
Moonroof / Sliding Rear Window
Trailertow / Delux Mirror Pkg

I was able to order this from a fleet dealer, and they told me I would get a better deal than any other dealer. And yes without any X-Plan or anything else, 1000 dollars off is the best deal Ive seen. Like I said, its 500 less than an 03 similarily equiped.

thanks for reply

First of all, congrats on your order.

I am not sure how much total you will pay but 1000 off the MSRP does not sound very attractive to me. JMHO

I only look at the INVOICE and see if they want to deal at the price or little above if you really want this car.

In my case the dealer is putting 500 on top of the invoice price and I told them to go ahead and order it. I am expecting some kind of rebate but we will see...

By the time my car is ready, I will be seeing some inventory FX4 in my area so I can decide then.

I know 1000 off isnt much, but Ive been going back and fourth through many many dealers and thats the best Ive been offered so far. 500 over invoice is great! How long did it take to do that? Hopefully by the time I recive my truck, I might shave some more off the price and get some incentives. Im not expecting delivery until late Oct.

If we've said it once, we've said it a thousand times...dealers don't know ***** and most of them lie. You should be paying invoice or below for any vehicle. The two most important things in the world to get are a mechanic you can trust and a dealer you can trust. Don't believe anything a dealer tells you if you don't know them. They'll rob you blind. That's their job. When I buy a vehicle, I usually ask my friends if they had good experiences anywhere or know a dealer personally. MSRP might as well be invisible, because that number should never be discussed or bargained with. Bargain from the invoice price. I have noticed around here in NJ, that MSRP is marked-up about $5,000 over invoice.
