My two week review of 2004
My two week review of 2004
I have now had my 2004 XLT Supercab (4.6 L, 4x2, tow package, 6.5 ft bed, 36 g fuel tank, 3.73, limited slip) for two weeks. Before I go on I must say that I have been driving a 78 F-100 and a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee....that is what my most previous driving experience has been.
Mileage....12.6 mpg. I have been driving it like a granny for "break in" purposes. Ford engineer friend said that may be why my mileage is not as good....in low gear too long around town?? Most of my miles have been on highway.
Took the family to beach this weekend in it. There is enough room for wife and two car seats in backseat. Rear facing car seat for infants is a little tight unless you put in middle. Otherwise there is plenty of room.
Steering is straight and true. The rack and pinion is VERY precise and confident. The ride is smooth on well paved roads. However when the interstate turns bumpy you are reminded that you are in a truck. Which is good in my opinion....I don't want to be floating down the road ....if I wanted that I would be driving an 89 Cadillac!
Interior is very quiet, everything is working great, stereo (not audiophile) is pretty good. Make sure you put your seatbelt on....If you don't after driving for about 30 seconds a pulsating alarm comes on. I like the automatic sensor in passenger seat that determines if airbag should come on.
Power is non inspiring from a dead stop, however I can tell that there is a V-8 when up to speed and merging on interstate (remember what I have been driving...see above). I definitely won't be looking for stoplight races! Wife likes it, very quiet, and my 3 year old thinks it is the greatest thing since peanut butter. The best part so far is the looks I occasionally get from other people......like what is that...especially from 03 and below F-150 owners. So far so good!
