Increased towing capacity???

I almost forgot....I was told that because of the release of the Titan, Ford was increasing the towing capacity to 9,900 lbs. I asked when this would take effect, and he said "it's now".

Well, to make a 400 lb increase, I would think that there would have to be some kind of mod, addition or SOMETHING happening. I couldn't help wondering if they already had the truck sitting there when that word came down (if it did). I don't think a salesman intoning "thou hast 400 lbs more towing ability" over the truck would do it.

Anyone heard anything about this?

Haven't heard of an increase, but I do know that 18" tires decreases GVWR & towing by 500 lbs....

It might have had the ability to tow up to 9,900# already and Ford just cut the number to be safe. Just a thought.

It was said at the sales training ride and drive that towing will probably be going up, but they didn't say when, I expect it will be about the time of the Titan launch. I doubt there will be any change in the trucks, just the ratings. I image they left some breathing room in case any competitors tried to out do the F-150.
