Finally got my first look
Finally got my first look
I was passing Jackson Ford in CA and thought I saw a '04 parked up next to a '03 Harley F150. So (of course), on my way back I pulled in to take a look.
It was a 4x4 XLT Scab in blue (nice color), and I looked it over pretty carefully. I checked the gas door....yep, plastic, and the rear door handle. Guess the test of time will show how well it stands up. I didn't think the blue oval on the tailgate was too big. It seemed to fit this truck somehow.
The salesman said "there's no ****ering on these...the price is what it is". I mentioned that I read an online forum, and have information on prices and buyers experiences across the country. He asked "what are they saying?" and got kind of quiet. lol
I noticed that they had the price at $32,000 and change, but that particular dealership also tacked an additional 6 grand on the price of the T-bird when it came out...so that tells you what they're all about.
Luckily, that's not the dealership I'm dealing with anyway. MY dealer just let me know that he has a XLT 4x4 with the 5.4 in now, so I'll go down today or tomorrow for a test drive. He says that they probably won't have any 5.4 4x2s for a couple of months with the scheduling what it is. I'd rather test the 4x2, but I'm not waiting a couple of months.
I'd love to see the Lariat interior even though it's kind of out of my price range.

Maybe, if I determine I REALLY have a more than twice-a-year use for it. I'm going today to test drive. I live just below the snow line, and don't think I need a 4x4. Guess it would be handy to pull a boat back up a ramp, but that's future worries.
I'm thinking tow hauler towing, and something big enough to put my bike in if necessary. California is chock full of 4x4 owners that will never so much as drive down a dirt road (might get it dusty) and I'm not one of those weenies. It's a pretty expensive option just for "status", not to mention the mileage is usually worse with 4x4.

Here's something to think about.....
"Resale Value"
You have already said:
Well, if you ever decide to sell this truck before you run it into the ground, you may want to consider that "chock full of weenies" who might be interested in buying your 2004 4X4, or "not" interested in buying your 4X2....
A 4X4 is also worth more, as you well know. And that's irrelevant of anyones needs for a 4X2 or 4X4.
I think that's worth considering

I'm sure they have a higher resale value, but this truck will be all I can do to swing with my other payments, and will have to last a long time. I'm not too worried about resale...probably drive it till one of us dies. lol
Besides, with the outrageous price of fuel in my area, I'd probably pay more for the increased fuel costs over the life of the truck than I'd recoup for the 4x4 feature at resale.
No offense meant to anyone that has a "blacktop bound" 4x4.
