Question Dealers & The X-Plan

Hi All,

Thanks for the valuable information provided in this forum. I've been 'lurking' for a couple of months and am just now posting for the first time.

A dealer in my area has a 2004 on the lot that is really similar to the order I have placed, but for which I have no build date. I spoke with the dealer and said that I was interested in buying the truck using an X-Plan PIN (oh, btw, can someone help me out with obtaining a PIN? ) and he said that they would only sell it at sticker for now.

While I understand that they are interested in keeping the truck around for others to see, are dealers obligated to sell a vehicle at the X-Plan price if a valid PIN is presented, or not?

Any info would would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Paul

Short Answer-

No

*******************

They are not obligated to sell a vehicle to X-Plan customers, or any customer for that matter.

They usually will, but if the deal is too sweet (For you), they'll try to BS you, or frustrate you out of the purchase because they're not making enough money on the sale.

I'm surprised that Ford is even offering X-Plan on the 2004 F-150. Most manufacturers don't offer X-Plan (Ford), VPP (Nissan/Infiniti), GMO (GM) or GMS (GM) pricing on the new model releases.

Unhappy X-plan

Right on Bighersh!

It is said but true that they don't have to honor the plan. I do agree that if you put some pressure on some dealers then you shouldn't have a problem getting one to offer to accept.

It is amazing as well that they will allow it at all on a new release.

I saw a '04 in a dealership here in Houston that had a quote
"2004 F-150 Market Adjustment $5000"
and this was on a STX model. This brought the sticker up above the $30K mark. Unbelievable!! Have any of you guys seen anything like this???

Did you order it or buy off the lot from dealer inventory?

Wanna tip? Three words: End Of Month!
Right now they know people are jumping out of their skin to see/get one of these, so if you can't negotiate close to invoice, wait until the last week of Septemeber (or any month for that matter).
I suspect the reason some people are negotiating close to invoice on orders is because an order is a 99% sure sale. They probably want to keep, or hold out for sticker price on the few they have on lots already because they don't know when they will get more, and they want to keep at least one on their lot.
My final conclusion on getting the best deals on these Trucks is to either buy a 03 off the lot or order an 04.
I haven't even set foot on a lot to look yet, because I am afraid I will get too excited and end up over paying. Maybe I should take some of 01's prozac first. LOL

Places hand over mouth as if to cough, and wails, "bull****".

No way are they selling 04's "BELOW" invoice.
Not unless the finance MGR is your brother, father, mother, sister- friend, something to you...

No harm intended Steve, but if they gave you, or anyone else $600.00 under invoice, I'm sure they KY-Jellied you good on your trade. Probably to the tune of $6,000 below wholesale on Kelly Blue Book".

Not to be offensive; Not at all- it's just hard to believe they're discounting the NEW F-150, new as in 2004.

To get $600 below on a 2003- Totally believable!

GM plans

GM has stopped the GMO for at least some, if not all, plan participants. GMS only now.

AND, you can no longer combine cash discount from GM mastercard with the GMS plan.

GM dealers under no obligation to honor GMS I believe. Even in the old GMO days, on popular models, even if GM corporate said plan OK on that model, dealers would refuse to honor plan. Corvettes for example.

Have bro-in-law who buys a new 'Vette every year the last 5 years, I think he manages to get a dealer to use the plan. He stays tight lipped about it. He's using my certificates.

Call Ford at 800-828-7746 and a pleasant young lady will issue you your PIN. SHe mentioned using a different PIN, if I needed one for online sales. So, if you dealer will not deal with you, buy online.

BH, I believe Steve wrote that his price ended up 6 bones below X-plan price, not below invoice price. There's a bit of difference between the two numbers.
