What I meant was if he did pay a premium then the only reason could possibly be because it is an excellent dealership and I have been looking for top notch service department to get my serpentine belt replaced.
(What did you think I meant?)

I do have one suggestion when ordering what you want:
*Get exactly what you want!*
That's it. Do NOT skimp on options or trim levels to save a few hundred bucks each month.
Because if you skimp now, you WILL kick yourself for years as you pay it off, and ESPECIALLY every time you see the truck you REALLY wanted drive by you on the street.

I got the current model when it first came out, and it was an absolute nightmare. But after the 2 year lease period, I upgraded to a Supercab and have been problem free ever since.
Had a similar experience with a Volvo. I've learned to wait a year after the car company has a chance to work out the kinks and bugs.
So I wouldn't call it chickening out, but rather a smart move. Those who are willing to take the chance of landing a problematic '04 will not be swayed. So it seems to me you made the right decision.
The '03 is still a good looking truck. It's really a win/win no matter which choice you make. Good luck!
