Can't really argue with that logic...

 

I think both the 4.6 and 5.4 are great motors. My current truck is a 4.2 and I tow my pop-up trailer (2,200 lbs) with not really any problems.

The reason I have the 4.2 is that was the motor in the truck I liked off the lot, the Sport. I would have bought it with any motor but it had the 4.2 no big deal.

My next truck, which will be the first I have ever ordered will be just what I want and this time I am getting the 5.4. I might not tow much now, but a few years from now I have no idea so why not be prepared...

Oh, and I am not yet ordering any truck it will be a year or two before that happens...

Kidding, I couldn't help take a jab at Ford for releasing a STILL less powerful truck than the competition.

First the Mustang GT lost it's crown to the Camaro (RIP) in terms of power & speed (Although it's looked better since 1993), now the F-150 still has less power than the Silverado/Sierra.....

Strategy, perhaps?

Chevy made a claim on TV, that the Silverado has better resale value than the F-150. Why is that?
Anyone got any ideas?

Not sure why they would make the claim, you shouldn't be putting the sale of the vehicle into the minds of your new buyers so quick, but i guess its nice to know.

Reason it probably sells higher is just simple supply and demand. Ford sells more trucks than anyone, and they were selling more trucks than any other vehicle on the road period for a long time. More product on the field means the price will be lower.

 

I actually went and looked at a few Silverado's today. Not that I meant to or anything. But they seem to be a nicely designed truck. I'm not to sure I like the headlight styling though. They seem to be to sharply angled for my taste. The Silverado I looked at was a black Z71 with the 5.3L Vortech. Not a bad looking truck IMO. But I will not turn from Ford. And here's why.

Ford's 3V 5.4L V8
HP:300
TRQ:365 lb-ft

Chevy's 5.3L Vortech V8
HP:285
TRQ:325 lb-ft

Now tell me which is the better of the two engines? The Ford of course! Duh?

 

I saw a red 2004 xlt styleside 2wd with the 4.6L engine today. And the sticker price was $27k. Sooooooooo.....I went and shopped around a bit. Guess what? I found out that I can get a base model 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 with the Off-Road package, and 5.3L v8 starting at $27,500. That's a Chevy 4x4 with a bigger v8 for about the same price as a Ford 2wd with a smaller v8. I really like the 04 f-150's, but there is something telling me to go for the better deal. You guessed it, the chevy. I hate to not buy a ford this time around, but the chevy just seems like the better deal to me. Sorry. Let the flaming begin! *puts on fire resistant suit*

 

Go ahead and call me a liar for contradicting myself. I said I wouldn't turn from Ford. But my wallet is disagreeing with me.

I'm with you Peacemaker. So far, I really like what I've seen of the F-150 in pictures. I don't get back to the states until next June so I don't know if I'll get to see one in person before then or not. There is a lot of competition for our truck buying dollars and after the newness wears off I beleive Ford will have to offer some better incentives to keep people buying.

 

I may stick with ford if I can find maybe a STX 4wd reg cab for under 27k. I mean, I really like the new ford, it's just that it's a little overpriced to me. Hopefully there will be some rebates and incentives later on like Thayer said. If I get an 04, I just might have to go with the 4.6L afterall. But the silverado isn't out of the question yet.

As I've mentioned in other posts, I'm looking to get the most bang for my bucks. Along with the F-150 Lariat I'm looking at the GMC Sierra SLT (don't like the chevy grill), the Ram 1500 Laramie w/5.7, and yes even the Titan LE. If they were all priced within about $500 of each other for comparably equipped models I'm pretty sure I would choose the Ford. BUT, if one of the others is significantly less expensive when I'm ready to buy then who knows.

 

It will be hard to pick up an 04 F-150 for anywhere close to a GM or Dodge in the next 3 months at least. I expect GM to raise its incentives to even more than the current at least $3000 next month. GM makes some good trucks as well. I do not know how GM can have a higher resale value when they offer more discounts on new models. I wonder how GM calculates that? anway, test drive them both. The 5.3L is a good motor and like to rev. BTW, I can get you a Friends and Family price on a Dodge if you are interested. Figure right around invoice minus whatever rebates apply. That Hemi likes to run too.

 

Thanks APT, I will definitely keep that in mind. The good thing is I'm not buying until I return to the states next June so I get the benefit of hearing all the reviews on the 150 here as well as waiting around to see incentives, if any. I really believe that Ford will have to offer comparable incentives after the novelty wears off if they expect to meet their goal of 1 million trucks sold for '04.

 

I had a 4.6 now have a 03 Screw 5.4.

5.4 has a lot more get up and go.

5.4 gas mileage is actually the same or better because it carries the weight better.

The $795 upgrade - You'll easily recover that with a better resale value.
