Question Bed Covers

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to make my first truck an '04 FX4 SCrew. I'm going to put a tonneau cover on. I like the durability of the hard roll top covers. Since I'm going to use the truck to haul my motocross bike around I need one that will not take up too much space in the front of the bed (the canister). I've seen some that have removable canisters and I like this option, but have been having a hard time finding one that is removable and will keep my bed waterproof. If I can't find a hard cover to suit my needs, I might just have to go with a soft one. Any thoughts and direction would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if there is any out yet, isn't the bed a different size or did it remain the same?

I know that there are probably no covers out that will fit the new 04's yet, but I looking for products that worked well for previous models.

Lund already has some parts listed for the new body style 04 F150 on their web site. They have a couple of soft tonneau covers listed. Unfortunately no pics of the products on the 04 f150's though. Looked up one of the no-snap tonneau's and it showed an 03 Silverado

So am I right that the 04 beds are different then the current models? I just figured they would be but don't know for sure.

Not totally sure, but I would have to say they probably are.

That is what I am thinking, since they redesigned the whole truck.

The 04 Supercrew bed seems to be pretty square vs. the '03 that was really narrowed at the rear. I spoke to one manufacturer and he said they'd have one ready for the '04 within a month of the first one hitting the dealers...

No problem. Hopefully they will get some pics on their site with their products on the 04 F150.

I love the idea of a rolling hard cover, but removing the canister to haul a dirt bike (or quad in my case) sucks. I decided to stick with a soft cover.

Lund has a feature on the roll up toneau covers for the new 04 F150. You can even order one there. Just go to the Lund website.

I see what you mean APT. It seems like a soft roll cover will be less hassle and more economical too. Thanks for the help.

Bed covers

I also have the same dilemma, I haul a 4-wheeler and don't want to lose any room. I found an intriguing cover called Foldacover (www.foldacover.com) that is a hard cover but can be removed easily. Has anyone had any experience with this cover? Any problems with weather tight, rattling, etc.? The web site doesn't mention how the rails are mounted to the truck; I don't want to be drilling & bolting if I don't have to.

The people who own Fold-A-Covers love them. However, I do not know how it attaches or how easily it removes. I played with a demo unit at a local accessories shop and it was slick to open/close, but unless it removes completely, it won't work for a quad/bike in the bed. The advertising mentions how easy it is to fold up and that it only takes up 3" of vertical space to see through your rear window. However, when it is folded up, I see it taking up 1/4 the bed space, or 1/2 for Supercrew. Each section folds on top of each other so they all have to take up some horizontal space equal to about 1/4 (4 sections for 6.5/8' or 2 sections for 5.5' beds) the length of the bed.

I have not found an acceptable hard/locking bed cover that is easy and convienient to remove and store. Something like the UnderCover may work for some, but you have to have a place to store the whole size of your bed. A garage would work, but what about when you are out already with the cover and decide to buy/carry something large?
Depending on the size of your bike/quad and the bed you have, a rolling hard cover may work. About 9" is the least length I remember seeing. My 6.5' bed could accomidate 9" of space and carry one of my quads, but the other is longer. No way with my Supercrew as I need every inch to pinch the tires for my smaller quad. A bed extender would work with a rolling hard cover and just about any quad. Quite bit more length. But I believe motorcycles are generally longer than quads so take measurements.
