Question 04 painted grill?

Hey everyone. This is my first time to the forum. Sorry about the non-creative user name. I entered it without thinking and now I'm stuck with it. I'm currently trying to buy a 04 FX4 supercrew. White with Grey accent. I was thinking about having the grill painted white to match the truck. I was wondering if this holds up well. I assume the stock grill material is similar to the ones on the other current ford trucks. Has anyone done this before? I think it would look really sharp.

Welcome Mark,

I've never done this myself, but from reading various posts on plastic painting; pieces under the hood, tailgate handle, aftermarket cowls, lower bumper piece, etc..... it sounds like it's fairly labor intensive with all the sanding to rough the surface and then the primer and painting. Not sure how long it would last on a grill, being the piece that get's hit the most with rocks and bugs. Maybe someone else that has painted other plastic pieces will chime in.

It's the bugs and rocks that worry me. Of course I haven't seen one yet. I might like the black grill. The main reason I'm going with the shadow grey accents with the white is cause of all the black trim (mirrors, grill, window trim, etc.) I'm thinking that it will help tie it all together a little bit better. I hope to see one soon. The dealer in Huntsville is expecting a few this week. We'll see.

I've painted mine

I paintedthe grill on my 97 in my garage about three years ago with two spray cans and it still looks good - no chips.

I'll be installing a billet grill in my new 2004 truck when I buy one.

I'm 50, not 80 though.......
