Final Verdict on Beds for S.Crew

The original debate went on and on.........but I still do not know the answer...........

Will the 6.5' bed be available ? I need the length to carry my
windsurfing gear (diagonally) and the 5.5' bed will be too short.
Otherwise, I'll have to go S.Cab.

Thanks

Not initially. In the first offerings 5.5' bed for the Crew.

Some pretty good rumors around about prototypes already with longer Crew bed, but nothing close to production.

I got some propaganda (sales stuff) through the mail from Ford a couple days ago that noted 5.5', 6.5' and 8' bed options for the new 2004 SCcrew. I pitched the mailer so I don't have it to scan in and post. I think longer beds are definitely in the works for the new truck.

Like Farmboy said, for now only 5.5' beds. Ever thought about a bed extender for your boards?

They will never put the 8' bed on the supercrew cause it would require a whole new frame design.

They purposely make the frames multi-tasking so that they can be minorly adjusted for use with other designs. For example:

Regular cab w/ 6.5' bed = Ext. Cab with 5.5' bed (new option)

Reg. Cab w/ 8' bed = Ext. Cab w/ 6.5' bed = Supercrew with 5.5' bed

Ext. Cab w/ 8' bed = Supercrew with 6.5' bed.

But a supercrew with an 8' bed will be longer than anything else and will not fit for any other truck. Thus, the problem. They'd have to create a whole new frame for a low selling Supercrew w/ 8' bed.

I hope this helps.

the numbers don't add up screw is 224" in overall length, supercab with 6.5' box is 228" , supercab with 8' box is 248.6". The standard cabs are 211.5" for 6.5' box and 230.1 with 8' box.

marc, you are right that the overall length does not add up. But they can forge the same frame and alter it slightly to make it that length.
For example,
you said the regular cab with 8' bed is 230.1". The ext. cab with the 6.5" bed is 228". Only 2" different. The supercrew with a 5.5' bed would be close to this number also no doubt. They don't need to cast 2 or 3 completely different frames for only 2 inches. They just alter one to fit the other. Much cheaper to do minor altering than to cast a whole frame.

at least, I've heard that they do this several times. Now I'll look like an idiot if I'm wrong.
But it makes sense as to why they'd come out with a 6.5' bed on a supercrew and a 5.5' bed on an ext. cab that didn't exist before...

it makes sense because its competition.

you can get a Shovy heavy half crewcad with 6.5 or 8' beds...and neither Shovy or Dodged have a shorty bed for supercabs

I guess the debate goes on.....thanks for the replies
APT, the extender doesn't work for me, because I need to keep
my junk locked up. I have a Roll'n lock on my 2001 L. and it
works pretty good.....slippery fingers haven't located my stash

I could not imagine having to drive an screw w/8ft bed around small roads, parking it etc. Personally I really think it would look awkward and stupid. My opinion of course.

I'm curious... What do you think of the F250 crew cab longbed? An F150 SuperCrew longbed wouldn't be any longer than (if as long as) that truck? Not meant as a flame, just wanted to see how you would equate those two trucks.

Gotcha, surfdog.

My wife brought home a Dodge 2500HD crew cab 8' bed. Seemed much longer than our supercab 6.5' bed. I'd find it even more difficult to park in crowed lots.

Has anyone noticed the wheelbases? The Supercrew is 138.8", just like currently. The new Supercab/6.5' is 144 as is regular cab 8'. I would think it relatively easy to give the Supercrew 6 more inches of bed space on the 144" wheelbase. Might be enough of a compromise for those that require longer beds, and a crew cab in a light duty pickup.
