My guesstimate.

I've been thinking about whether or not to get a 2004 F-150. I had my heart set on an 04' 350Z, but I'm not sure what to do. I really like the sound of 300 hp, and 365 lb-ft torque in the new F-150, but price is the big factor here. See, I can get a new "Enthusiast model" Z for $28,500 @ $370-ish per month for 6 years. If I knew the price of the new F-150 with the 5.4L V8, I could make up my mind. I hope they aren't going to jack the prices sky high, and offer no rebates, or some s*** like that. Ok, I need to know a thing or two here. Will the 04's offer a base model XL with the 3 valve 5.4L v8? That would sorta keep the price down a little if I opted for a base model, instead of paying for all the extra car-like luxuries that cost big money. And what do you guy's think the pricing will be like for the 04' F-150? Ok, I'm finished here. Thanks for putting up with me, and feel free to pass along any pricing information that you may know to me.

Peace....

Hehe...I forgot to mention my guess on the pricing. I think they'll start out at about 25-26k. That sounds reasonable.

Why would you spend 28K on a 350Z when you could have an 03 Mach I mustang for the same price that will blow the doors off ALMOST any Japanese sports car, 350Z's included! Plus its legend! Man, If I had the money.........

Peacemaker,

If you decide on a car over the truck please get an American brand. As a whole, more money stays in our economy that way than if you buy a foriegn car. There are a lot of good American cars out there and the Mustang has several levels of trim and HP to choose from.

As of 6 PM tonight the dealers in So. Illinois have no pricing info. In fact when they gave me "up to date information" it was the March 17 order guide that everyone on the net already has. I wonder what Ford has done to scare so many people form leaking information about this truck.

I had no idea that a Mach 1 Mustang sells for $27-28k??? Damn if I'd known that before, I wouldn't have gotten myself all worked up over a 350z. I see what your saying Nick D. And in fact, you made me change my mind. I want to respect the country I live in and stay with American muscle. Ford has been good to me so far, so why not stick with it I say. Damn, I'd love to have a fast a$$ Mustang. So tell me, what kinda horsepower/torque does the mach 1 have? You have me interested in this car btw. What's it's 1/4 mile, and 0-60 times? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanx!

What upgrades does the Mach 1 offer? There is a $3k rebate on Mustangs right now, but not on Mach 1. I did a dealer inventory search and did not com across any Mach 1's, but the sticker price was about $29k. Invoice around $26.5k.

Hmm, A-plan price on a manual GT Premium is $22,244, minus $3000. Wow!

I found 0-60 times for the Mach 1 to be 5.2 seconds at Car & Driver. It has an SVT 4.6L 32valve DOHC engine that makes 305 hp. Top speed was @ 155 mph. But they didn't give any 1/4 mile times? The Mach 1's 0-60 @5.2 is quicker than the 350Z's 5.7 seconds. Just I hope they are still selling the 03' Mach1 models in 2004. I'll have my truck paid off by then. Do you guys think that the dealers will still be selling new 03' Mach 1's in mid-late 2004? Or could I order one? Sorry for the trouble, but I don't know that much about how dealers operate. I've only been new car, or should I say new "truck" shopping once.

I suspect the Mach 1 will be like the Bullit, a special 1 year package. There may be something similar next year, but I also guess that the 05 model will be out early so maybe no special model. If you can find a new Mach 1 in the fall, great! But I didn't find any by me just searching through dealer inventories and this is Detroit. I would expect a heavier percentage of special edition domexstics in this area, like SVT models have been in the past.

But dealers do try to get rid of leftover 03 models that are on their lots in the fall and inventories are extremely high right now.

Mach Is are available. I've seen them at 1/2 a dozen dealerships. Currently, there is a red one at Ada Ford in Ada, Oklahoma selling for $2,500 over MSRP. Bob Tomes Ford in McKinney, Texas had a white one last month and now has the "cool retro" blue one; they both sell for $5,000 over MSRP. The functional shaker hood, retro magnum 500 wheels, and vintage knock off gauges/seats are very cool and give it collector car status. The problem is that they want so much over MSRP. For a few grand more, the supercharged Cobra SVT and it's host of upgrades is a better overall package IMO.

OK THE MACH 1 according to MM&FF (Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine) and (5.0 Mustangs and Superfords Magazine) both got one for testing a few months ago. I will translate and condence for you some things from the mags that they said after 1/4 mile testing and dynoing the car...here goes:

The 4.6 engine under the hood of the Mach 1 is not the same as what came in the 96-98 Cobras (but is the same as that in the new Mercury Marauder), The cylinder heads are a new high-flow design with improved mid range torque. The engine used 5.4 Navigator Cams, the Exhaust is a high flow but the specs, engine compression was raised to 10.0:1 vs 9.85 in prior 4.6 DOHC engines, the mufflers have chrome tips and are tuned for a unique sound. Also the car has sub frame connectors from factory, better shocks and supension with 3.55 gears. The defining addition to this car is the fully functional shaker hood.

Specs are 305HP @5,800 RPM and 320 lb-ft of torque @ 4200 RPM.

MM&FF had Paul Svinicki of Pauls High Performance (Jackson,MI) drag test this car he ran a 13.52 in quarter bone stock. Later they tested another and run 13.135 in quarter bone stock.

5.0 Mustangs and Superfords ran a best 13.29 bone stock and figured with drag radials they would be clicking off some 12 sec passes.

On the Dyno it spun bone stock 274 RWHP and 301 RWTQ......Asumming a 17% drivetrain loss these numbers would put the car to 330 HP and almost 365 lb-ft of torque at the engine!

They did a comparison of an 01 Cobra stock and the 03 Mach stock dyno numbers, the Cobra put down 271RWHP and 273RWTQ.

With Off Road X pipe, K&N Filter, and Underdrive pullies, and 4.30 gears the Mach I spun 305RWHP and 327RWTQ!

With these mods Paul Svinicki of Pauls High Performance (Jackson,MI) was able to get the Mach I right off the trailer to run a 12.06 @ 112.23 MPH, he then bumped the launch RPM up from 5K to 6K and ran an 11.98 @ 112.52!

GUYS I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK, BUT I THINK THATS TRUELY AWESOME FOR A 4.6 NATURALLY ASPIRATED!!!!!!

NOW I HOPE YOU SEE WHY IF I HAD 28K TO SPEND ON ANOTHER CAR, I WOULD BE A PROUD OWNER OF ONE OF THESE BABIES!!!!

Well I hope they carry the Mach 1 over into 2004. But if they don't, I think there should be a special edition Mustang or something. But hey, I would'nt mind a regular 260 hp 4.6L GT, fully loaded with all the options. Would you?

I read somewhere that the Mach I was going to be carried over into 04 because the planned BOSS mustang for 04 was shot down by upper managment.

Good Luck,

Good Luck Bro!

I've had 5 F-150's and 2 Mustangs since 1996! I love em! I have found it best to have both at the same time!!! I kept trading one for another but now I own my 01 Cobra and just bought an 88 F150 reg cab LWB work truck to haul stuff. But when you want to haul a$$ you have that sweet horse waiting to be ridden in the garage!

Those Mach I's are monsters! If I wasn't so upside down on the snake I would trade in a heartbeat!

Ford Really has there act together when it comes building fine muscle!

I just read somewhere that the Mach 1 Mustang will be out in 2005. I think it was Motortrend that stated that in an article. I'm not sure about the 04's, but it looks like if they will be out in 05, Ford would carry it over from 03-04? I also read a rumor that the 05' Mustang GT's price range will be $27-32k. But that was just someone's guess, not real world info. So anyway, I will be gettin' a Stang sometime in the near future. I love the Mach 1, and the 05's have my eye. Descisions...Descisions.
