Does anybody that has a 97-2003 truck, think this is the truck we should have had to start with.

 

No sure what you mean by the question. This 04 should be supeior in many ways to the current model. I was fortunate enough to have had one of the first 97's out back then. It was far superior to the truck that it replaced. So much so that Ford witnessed over a 20% jump in F150 sales even though they were already at the top in light truck sales.

I think the new truck will be great, but the current models are no slouch. It's just evolution............

The new truck model makes the current seem so outdated to me.

Absolutely not. For then I would've been cheated out of the truck I now have, which is the best truck I've ever had. And I've owned lots of trucks.

The '04's are cool but I'm not sorry I still got my '98 SC XLT.

 

I agree with shophound. I do think the new 04 are a good looking truck but NOT enough I would trade mine in yet, 3 - 4 years maybe, I'll have to wait and see.

I would say that the "new" flareside seems to be an afterthought of Ford I don't like it at all. For me the only real "sporty" looking truck now (04) is the Lighting.
