Fuel pump just went out

99 F150 4.6, engine surged a couple times then died. When I turn key on I don't hear the fuel pump, so I'm pretty sure it's that. Truck has 302k miles. What brand of pump is adequate? Remove bed or drop the tank?

I recommend Motorcraft and get a buddy and remove the bed.

Even easier if you have a hoist or a machine with a loader.

Have you considered the Pump relay may have burnt contacts?
When you turn the Ignition on, the PCM powers up, puts a ground on the Pump relay for about 3 seconds to pass fused power to the pump from a dedicated fuse, then releases the pump relay until you crank the engine..
The crash switch behind the passenger side kick panel may be tripped or faulty.
Better to check these things out first than to remove the bed, drop the tank and put all back together only to find out it still does not work.
Good luck.
