Someone help please I知 going insane with my truck
I have a 2001 f-150 lariat edition with the 5.4 triton and it has been giving me some trouble with running and by that I mean I can start it and it will idle but as soon as I put it in drive or second it stalls out and acts like it痴 not getting enough gas or something. I can put it in reverse and it will stay running and it will also drive just fine. It idles in park and neutral. I just changed the fuel filter which definitely needed it but I have no idea what to do now someone please help lol

Here are some things you need to know.
Starting, Idling and engine and transmission control.
A. The engine has an intake air controller called an IAC.
It s used by the computer to control air intake and adjust to engine loads so stalling does not happen.
Question is, is the IAC faulty or dirty? Its located on the Throttle body and has an electrical connector attached the computer uses to control it. Normal hot Idle RPM is about 650 +/- 50. It needs to compensate for Trans load when put in gear, cold start idle, power steering loads, A/C loads, lighting/charging loads. etc.
.
B. If the intake system has a vacuum leak the extra air will cause a shift in the fuel tables causing the Idle fuel to go too Rich and can result in stalling and rough idling. Is the PCV hose rotted or deteriorated?
.C. You need to address other known faults that may be adding to the stalling.
.D. The transmission forward gears are computer controlled solenoids inside the Trans. the harness has multiple wire to a plug on the side of the Trans, to do this.
The reverse gear does not need computer control of any sort but manual by putting the shifter by 'cable' , in reverse position, as it's only a single slow gear in one direction.
.
Start be taking a look for codes.
The trans codes of course are not engine computer codes but still reside in the computer that does that control of an outside unit.
Look at live data for the Long Term Fuel Tables for being shifted positive in percentage. Any shift beyond 18 to 20% will result in a Rich fuel condition at Idle. If this shift gets to 25% a code will be set. P 0171/ 0174 or both would be the result.
Look over the PCV hose and it attachment points.
With multiple issues at the same time, you have to begin by seeing what you have, then repairing for those codes, to clear them.
Good luck.
