HELP! Buying a 97 150

It has ONLY 66k miles (supposedly) and is an XLT 4WD Extended Cab Stepside 5.4 auto. Going to see it tomorrow, seller says it was his dads truck...but it shows 8 owners! Says his family is 4 of those...anyway, what do I look for? Why has this gone unsold for 3 weeks? He says his bottom dollar is $6500. Thanks for any advise

What engine and transmission? Look for rust - cab corners, rear quarter panels, wheelwells, rocker panels, frame. Look for the usual things you would with any vehicle. That's the going price for one in very good condition.

Edited...it's 5.4/auto. First year of the triton makes me nervous

If it's a 5.4 it most likely has a E4OD transmission (confirm with the TRANS code on the door jamb sticker, E4OD is "E", 4R70W is "U"). Even though it's first year for the 5.4, it's a solid reliable engine. It's not the first year for either transmission but the E4OD is stronger. Both are reliable.

That's a E4OD. It also has a open (non-limited slip) 3.55 rear. Should be a good truck.

What is the consensus on the V8s? 4.6 or 5.4 is the better truck motor?

They are both very good. The 5.4 has more power and torque. The 4.6 has been around since 1991 in cars, the 5.4 was built for trucks.
