Locating oil pan drain plug

I have a 99 ford f150 xlt 4.2 liter. I need to know how to locate my oil pan so I can drain the oil and do an oil change. Can anyone tell me where at under the truck I can find it. Thank you

The oil pan is under the middle of the engine. It's the lowest part of the engine. You should also change the oil filter, it's a canister about half the height of a soda can and twice as big around, it's near the oil pan screwed into the engine block. When you go to the store to buy the filter, you will see what it looks like. Do not buy a FRAM filter.

I don't remember the exact size, but you will need a box or socket wrench to remove the drain plug, and a strap wrench to remove the filter. The drain plug needs to be tight, but not excessively so, and the filter should only be a firm hand tight.

You will need 5 1/2 quarts of 5W20 or 5W30 oil.
