99 f150 4.6L triton V8 knock sensor

My dad was trying to figure out why the truck wasn't acting right. Over heating, not running right. Ran a code for the knock sensor. Pulled it apart to the knock sensor. Broke the freaking thing. Then broke the extractor. I'm grinding it out. I need to know what is below the knock sensor? Is it a through hole to the crankcase or does it bottom out in the block?

It's in a blind hole.
Knock sensor: detects Ping noises when they occur and retards Ignition timing until the Ping disappears.
