Power steering pump shaft play

Hey guys,

Working on my truck this week (pulling the 5.4 to replace head gaskets) and I have been wrenching on the power steering pump to remove it from the block.

I noticed the pulley is very close to the timing cover, and when I turned the pulley to get a look at the bolts holding it to the block, the shaft moves in and out of the pump about 1/4". I've not noticed the PS being noisy or any other issues when driving, but is this something that also needs replacing? The truck has 250k on it.

Thanks!!
