Hello, my cousin has a 97 f150. When he starts it it starts fine. Then a few mins later he will get a loud screeching noise like the noise u get when u try to start a car that's already running. Someone said it could be the starter. Any ideas?

 

It could be either the starter, the ignition switch (key switch), or a relay.

 

Seems to only make noise when in park or neutral in drive when driving it doesn't do it

 

Makes sense. The neutral safety switch prevents starter engagement in anything but Park or Neutral.

Something is causing the starter to engage - starter, ignition switch, associated wiring.
