Wanting to know what I have to do to switch from the 97 aluminum intake manifold to the 2 piece plastic on 03. Motor blown today on 97 and have a great running 03 2 wheel. Going to put stainless steel exhaust manifold on.

 

What engine is in the 97 and what engine is the 03? What is the 03 engine out of?

 

I'm sorry it's a 4.2 v6. In both trucks. Having a bad day and been on internet looking for answers

 

glc can correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the aluminum intake be better with the updated gaskets?

My '99 had the aluminum intake with the updated gaskets and it ran like a top.

 

You should be able to do a direct swap keeping the manifolds on the 03.

 

I was just going with the stainless exhaust because of rusted studs and to do a better flow exhaust

 

There is an older post on here that the guy claims that the plastic top had a better runner design and there for a flatter curve on the performance of engine

 

That's what I'm saying - keep the 03 intake on the 03 engine.

 

Ahh, ok. I see. Better performance. Then go for it!

 

next question is am I able to use the complete harness from the 03 and just plug into the connection on truck. They look pretty much the same. With my research I found that the lower intake manifold are the same. Only difference is the aluminum top on 97 and the 2 piece plastic on the 03.

 

I would look at all the sensor plugs to see if they are the same, I would be surprised if it was a direct fit
