3.73s and big tires.

Hello all, I just recently got a 03 supercrew with a 4.6 and 3.73s. I don't tow at all and the truck has plenty of power to spin the 33's into 2nd. I was wondering what y'alls opinion on putting 37's on the truck would be?

3.73s with 37s is going to suck!

I have 4.56s with 35s but also have a 5.4l motor. It's adequate.

also, without a programmer or a recalibration unit, your speedometer/odometer vs. your actual speed/mileage will be quite a bit off....

Thanks, I was thinking about getting a programmer. My buddy has a single cab with the 4.6 on 37s with 3.55s and he daily drives it.. I’m still deciding whether to get 35s or 37s..

just for comparison, 235/75/15 is what my old ford explorers had, with 3.73s......

35 and 37s will definitely not be adequate for 3.55s... but to each his own, I mean I guess it's cool if you like no acceleration and awesome highway mileage......

the power programmer is not going to help with not having the correct gear ratio to begin with.....

The truck seems to do fine on 37s with 3.55s. No it’s not the fastest thing around but it’s not slow. I really don’t want to do a 6 inch lift either so I’m most likely going to be getting 35s

Heck, I noticed a difference in going from the stock 235/70/16 tires to 265/75/16 tires with a 97 F150 with the 5.4 and 3.55 gears.... Right out of the tire store, within minutes of getting the slightly taller tires... Had to re-cal the speedo gear too.. (97 still had an actual plastic GEAR to drive the speedo).

But, after I got used to it and the speedo was set to the correct actual speed, at least the shifting was much better and over time, I just lived with it..

As was said... It's all about how you personally feel about the "lugging" you will get with going to taller tires and having the same gear set with the shorter tires..

You can put 37's with 3.15 gears and get down the road.. Just depends on what you intend to do with the rig and go from there..

Good luck!

Mitch
