Walmart closed 63 out of over 600 Sam's Club stores. They aren't all gone.

Today I tried to start the truck and it wouldn't start. So, I got my fuel pressure gauge out and when I connected the first fitting to the rail, gas came out. I hooked up the gauge and turned on the ignitiion and it read 35 psig. Then I turned the key to start and it fired up and ran normally. So, it appears the problem is not a bad fuel pump, but I'm not positive about that yet. I drove to the bank and cut it off and it restarted. I drove it to a store and cut it off and it restarted. Intermittent problems are tormenting. Ideas are appreciated!

Need crank, and cam sensor to start the engine
As well as the obvious starter, fuel, spark

I'd look at PCM power/grounds too

Personally I'd wait until you get something more concrete.

I just hate spending money and time to replace perfectly good parts

If it's a hot restart issue more than a cold start issue, that could lead you more towards a cam or crank sensor

It has failed to start on 2 occasions, one when leaving Sam's Club where it had been sitting for 30 or more minutes and the next day first time I tried to start it that day.

There aren't any trouble codes. Wouldn't it throw a code if a sensor wasn't working?

Thanks!

I've paid one tow charge so far. So, waiting has its cost risks too. On a 16 year old truck with 148k miles on it, some new sensors/parts may be deserved.

Surprised you don't have AAA or have it included with your insurance.

I've got AAA, my insurance, and my Ford warranty... I've never had to pay for tows. It was very handy when I was moving my mistake of buying '02 Dodge Diesel around... I even use it for my friends if they are in a bind.

There is not enough payback for AAA, or insurance policies. I've used a tow truck only about 4 times in 57 years of driving. And one of those times was because the used Lincoln I bought from a Lincoln dealer didn't have the correct size spare tire rim. Especially now with smart phones you can find a tow service and call them immediately and compare prices. This week I called two tow services. One quoted $100 and the other $65.

The truck has started fine many times since the last start failure and has run fine.

Actually there was a code that I didn't pay enough attention to.
P1000
Potential causes of a P1000 include: The battery or PCM has been disconnected (Ford, Mazda, Jaguar) The diagnostic trouble codes have been cleared (Ford, Mazda, Jaguar) An OBD monitor concern occured before completion of the drive cycle (Ford)

The PCM has been disconnected made me think it might be the PCM relay. So, the first pellet of the shotgun blast was that I installed a new PCM relay. I'll continue to drive it and will see if the start failure happens again.

You sure you haven't disconnected the battery recently?

No, it's been a long time more than a year I'm sure since I disconnected the battery and cleaned the clamps.

Well, my truck has started fine since I replaced the PCM power relay. Sooo, it might have been the problem. But with intermittent problems it's hard to tell for sure.
