2002 F150 Supercab - rear door wont open.

The cable that connects to the bottom latch on the rear door came loose from the latch. What is the easiest way to get that latch loose, so i can open the door and replace?

Take the panels off from the inside and then reach in and pull the cable to open the door. What happens is the rubber end that holds the cable that pulls the latch breaks. Mine have broken twice on both sides. the first time I replaced the cables with factory cables at a cost of $200 or more. The second time I just replace the rubber cable ends with machined aluminum cable ends for about $10 and they shouldn't break any more.

Watch this video to see how to repair the cables.

Thanks for the reply Roadie, but the cables are fine. The bottom cable came loose from the bottom lock/latch and the door won't open. I can't see how to put the cable back into the lock/latch without removing it from the door itself. I can't remove the latch from the door without first opening the door. I took it to a veteran Ford mechanic, but he couldn't get the latch open either, and he had a special tool that fits directly into the latch to pull the lock up; thereby opening the door. At this point, I'm just looking for some good ideas... before I give up and physically rip the latch out of the door and have to replace the whole rear door. I have 5 daughters and getting 3 into the backseat through 1 door is a tumultuous affair that I prefer to avoid.

Maybe take the panel off the opposite side door and look at the latch. It may help you figure out how to unlatch the problem door.

Just don't do what the preacher at our country Baptist church did when he locked his keys in the trunk of his old chevy. he blew out the lock with his 12 gauge! LOL!
