99 F150 starting issues

I turn the key and all electronics turn on, I hear the fuel pump. However the truck will not make a sound. I hear a click form the fuse box under the hood but no other click ot attemp to engage the stater. Is my starter finished? Normally there would be a warning sign the starter is gone... do these just die? I went under the truck and tapped the starter with a block of wood (don't wish to crack the casing its -25 Centigate here) and I got he same result. Any one have any ideas?

Try putting it in Neutral, moving the lever up and down. Your MLPS (neutral safety switch) may be out of adjustment or going bad. If this is the case, it should start if you jump the relay on the firewall.

I assume you have a fully charged battery that's not on its last legs?
