Questions about swapping out motor

Have a 2000 F-150 XLT 5.4L. Got T-boned, truck was considered totaled but drivable. I'm sick of getting in out passenger side, loud in the cab, and before the accident, no A/C and water leaking from rear window. The engine only has 112,00 miles, so I was toying with the idea of having someone put it in another body, if I can find something decent here in Wisconsin. Both exhaust manifolds are leak so to deal with that noise and pain, the engine is better off coming out anyways, practically. I asked the guy at one of the shops if that motor would only work in that generation of truck, which I would expect. He said it actually sometimes varied year to year, even in the same generation. Has anyone dealt with this? Is there something written showing possible options, or is there a link or area on the site that addresses this? It sounds like kind of a pain but it might be my only option to get maybe a half way decent truck for the little bit of money I have. (Although I know this won't be cheap)

You can pretty much use that engine in any 97-03 F150, plus 04 Heritage that came with either a 4.6 or 5.4. Yes, there will be some variations, but nothing that can't be dealt with fairly easily.
