Chassis Brace

I understand these trucks are getting a little old, and dumping money into them is less advisable than saving for a new truck. That being said, has anyone done some interesting mods to their 10th gen?

I decided to use mine for my engineering senior project and adapt a Stiffler's chassis brace to fit my 4x4. I was able to snag a complete chassis brace sans hardware for a steal.

I had to throw away the front half of the brace and make another one, and make spacers for the rear, AND the mounting points for the driveshaft safety loop are directly below the transfer case, but it all fits. After that, I had to do some basic statics calculations for my project, but I don't think they were that accurate. I'm also not sure how much changing the angles of the brace affects the effectiveness of the stiffening, however you definitely notice it on there.

I would've maintained the angles if I had a lightning or a 2WD to compare to, but I procrastinated, and couldn't find someone willing to let me play with their truck.

Installing the brace this way forces you to remove the fuel tank and transfer case skid plates. There are also tight clearances with the torsion bar crossmember and Y-pipe.

I do enjoy the extra torsional rigidity when I'm driving like an idiot.

Here's a couple pics of the "completed" install.

Looks like it's hanging down low. Maybe not for rock climbing?

Definitely street only... But man does it improve the handling of my FX-4.

However, it's not as low as the pictures make it seem.

I bet it stiffened things up....It also reduced the amount of "flex" the frame was allowed . for those off camber approaches .

I am intrigued about your calculations that you were doing?
