1997 engine temp up and down oil light on and off

hi, new to the community seeking advice.

i've done some digging on the issue and everything is pointing to a bad temp or plugged coolant but i find this very hard to believe because i just replaced my O2 sensor as i was receiving a P0141 code. soon after replacing it when i took it to work i noticed the engine would get hot quickly then back to normal telling me that its not overheating and the oil would flash on and off. and this only happened when i accelerated. when i released my foot from the gas every thing went back to normal. could it possibly be a bad O2 sensor connection? i used a Bosch #15719 to replace the bad one. (note my check engine light does not come on anymore so i figure i fixed the O2 sensor)

anyone ever had this issue any ides would be very helpful as i generally have fixed everything on this truck myself.

thanks for the help in advance. Jdogg

Code 141 has noting to do with the temperature indication.
It was telling you the heating circuit for the Ox sensor was open.
The temperature actions can result from air in the cooing system or even a plugged radiator.
Good luck.

I know that but everything was fine until I replaced the o2 sensor. So I was wondering if it was some how tied to it. Going time do now digging when I get home.

Ok update. I removed the new sensor and place the bad one back in and everything is normal so far minus the fact I now have 2 codes for the sensor now 1 being P0141 and the other being P0161.... I don't understand why placing a new sensor in caused my engine temp to go crazy on the dash or the oil light to come on and off... anyone have any ideas much appreciated.

You need to read both these pages, you have issues with the rear sensors on both banks:

https://www.autocodes.com/p0141_1997_ford_f150.html

https://www.autocodes.com/p0161_1997_ford_f150.html

If a Bosch sensor caused issues, I'd use Motorcraft if you replace them.

Apparently there is a harness issue with the 12 volt leads through the heaters to the PCM for both rear Ox sensors.
The harness with all the leads going back to the sensors, transmission control and the EVAPS system are all separate from anything on the engine above it.
Fix this issue then if the other issue is still present, look at that.
It does no good the ask a question of why!
Good luck.
