Junkyard pull or rebuild

So the 4.2L in my 99 F-150 Seized.

To start with it started bucking like a mad bronco as I was doing 75 on the highway. I slowed it down to exit which was followed by the engine oil light comming on and a loud metal banging noise, and 30 seconds later it just died and won't restart.

We tried to hand crank the motor which it won't do, it is straight up seized.

So my brother said we should rebuild the motor, the truck has 311,000 miles on it. Should we rebuild this motor or get one from a junk yard already running with sub 100k miles on it.

What do yall think makes more sense.

I vote for the salvage yard engine if you can find one under 100k miles like you say.

My brother said he found them for 1000-13000 for ones ranging between 60-90K miles on the engine

Just make sure it's a 99 or newer.

I won't buy one that I couldn't see running and do basic tests on it FIRST! Junkyards around here sell JUNK! Yes, they'll give you a guarantee but only credit (worthless!) and not cash.

I would say that you're better off to rebuild your engine but it sounds like you may have trashed it.

Another big problem with junkyard engines is getting all the right sensors, brackets, etc to fit YOUR application. Get the wrong one and it wouldn't even have the HOLES for the parts to you need to attach.

reputable yard will stand behind an engine purchase!

The cost to rebuild your WORN SLAMM *** out locked up motor would be unbelievable....well over $2800... spend $1500 get a decent motor... roll on.
