C1185 ABS Light
C1185 ABS Light
Looking for some help with a ABS light issue on my 2002 F150. The light comes on and off for about 2 months now. There's no pattern to when it wants to come on or shut off. I had the codes read and the only code was a C1185.
I've pulled the manual but not sure which fuse to check. The code points to a relay or control module. I can't find any details on these parts and or any troubleshooting for them. I'm suspecting a relay based on how its coming off and on.
I would love any specific details on how this was resolved by anyone if possible.
Thank you!
James

This code is often caused by a solder joint intermittent on the ABS control module.
You would have to access that unit, remove the cover and look for solder connections that look like they have a crack around them.
A magnifying glass might be of help under good light.
Use a pencil solder iron of sufficient heat to reflow the any faulty joints and possibly add some solder without causing solder shorts.
Otherwise the module would still have to come out an be replaced.
It's worth a try if you have the tools to remove the unit.
Clean the area and spray some loosener and be careful about removing the screws because if you round them off your in a new situation.
Don't take any brake lines off or open the system otherwise.
Hold yourself up before you ask the cost from dealer.
The intermittent is vibration and temperature expansion and contraction.
Good luck.
