clearance between RH engine mount and exhaust manifold

This is just a warning/cautionary tale for those working on exhaust manifolds on these earlier model modular engines.

I'm so glad I decided to mount the exhaust manifolds on my '99 4.6L before dropping the engine in. I'd be pretty upset if I hadn't.

It turns out, there is one stud on the RH exhaust manifold that doesn't have enough clearance from the RH engine mount to get a socket over it. I tried to re-position the engine mount as far away as I could and tried other sockets I had. Nothing worked. In the end, I ended up taking the engine mount off and hitting it with the bench grinder to make room for the socket.

not enough room to get a socket on the nut

notch ground out of engine mount making room for socket

socket fitting nicely

Why is that area of your truck so clean? Your post has stimulated my memory and I vaguely remember having similar problems with my 4.6. The 5.4 has plenty of clearance but when I swapped engines I bought new mounts. Not sure but I think the new mounts do not have the area that drops down like yours.
