Replacing Fuel Pump

Well after weeks of my truck starting then not then starting I began troubleshooting with the help of folks here. So I pulled the plug and bought the whole fuel pump assembly.

I went back and forth deciding whether to drop the tank or pull the bed off. I finally chose to pull the bed and I'm glad I did. I would recommend this route AS LONG AS YOU HAVE HELP. Five guys and 2 sets of saw horses because I didn't want to just rest the bed on the ground.

Only mistake I made was there what appears to be a vent line that comes off the brake line junction on the back side of the axle that I wasn't aware of.

Was going to replace the gas filler & vent rubber hoses that connect the filler to the top of the gas tank but couldn't find them at the local auto parts stores. Called FORD and they will only sell the whole assembly for $200. So much for helping out the small guys trying to help themselves.

Once you have access to the top of the tank job took 5 min with coffee too. I guess the most expensive part of the job will be the pizza & beer for my helpers.

Good Luck and thanks to all that helped me troubleshoot my problem.
Kenny

Thanks Roadie. My next big job is finally replacing my heater core. I have all the stuff. Guess I'll just need a extra set of hands to help slide out the dash.

Yes, I did same route (removed box). I don't recall my procedure identifying that same brake vent, and I almost ripped it out too. Luckily I lifted and moved back only 6 inches before re-checking.

You don't need two people to do the heater core as you don't need to completely remove the dash. Search the site. There is an excellent write up on doing the heater core. It still sucks, but the guide is great.

The dash must be pulled back, but not completely removed.

What I meant to say was the dash gad to be pulled out not off. Sorry for the confusion.
