The door chime on my truck seems to remind me the key is still in the ignition, even when it is not. Most of the time it stops when you close the door, but sometimes it continues to chime. Being the truck is only used once a week or less, it runs the battery dead if I don't listen real close through the door to verify it stopped chiming.

Can anyone give me a little direction on where to look for the problem? The truck is a 97 f150.

 

If your door ajar light stays on, I would say spray your door latch mechanism with some spray lube (wd-40?), it is a common issue, I have to address the door ajar issue every few years with a little squirt. I own a 97 that sits weeks at a time as well. Try that first since its free then come back if that doesn't help.

 

Might want to look into a new ignition lock cylinder so it stops chiming when the key is out. Easy to change.
