Chiped or not?

I have a 2001 Crew that only has one key. Im REAL good about locking my keys in my trucks so I wnt to wally to see if I could get one made. Well they said it "wasn't"a chipped key so I had the girl cut me one. Unlocks the truck just fine but wont start it. Just turn it over. I don't have a keyless entry so does it have a chipped key or just a bad copy?

You don't need a 'chipped key' to unlock the doors but you do need one to start the motor, same at the one you have.
Duh.
Good luck.

Don't keep cranking it with the copy key or you will cause the PATS system to shut it down.

I have the same thing with my 03, only 1 key. I had a copy made and put it in a hide a key box for those "special" occasions. I also lock the chipped key in the truck when I go backpacking and let the others in the group know where it and the hide a key are.

as the others have said. The chipped key will allow the fuel to be turned on. But if you try to start it without a chipped key it will just crank. I have one to lock and unlock the doors. Costed me $3 cut at ford

Speaking of cutting keys. I just had an extra home key made at Lowes. they have an automated key cutting machine. No humans required. The key was cut perfectly and cost a few cents over $3. It will cut car keys too. Putting humans out of work!

Ftw, I got a cheap Ilco 008 key manual key machine with an extra cutting wheel on CL a couple years ago... I love it. I just go online and buy blanks and make my own copies out in my shop for my equipment. I'm never without keys.

Of course it's not going to help if I don't have the correct key blank right then... but that's when Lowes or Wallyworld comes in handy.

You need a chipped key and a key machine that can clone it. All F150's starting in 1999 have PATS.

She was wrong.

You can buy a pair of transponder keys on ebay for $9. Take them to a locksmith. My local Ace Hardware has a transponder cloning machine and they will cut and clone a pair of keys for $40.
