'00 XLT - 238K miles and my baby is toast (no, really)
She was a wonderful truck. Best vehicle I think I've every owned. 4.6L motor was a "tank". Had two plugs blow out and replaced the alternator but that was it under the hood for over 238K miles. I even got over 200K miles on the original clutch!
But last Thursday night she fell victim to the cruise control recall that I was not aware of. The truck had been parked for two days and she burned so hot that the hood entirely melted (which the fire chief had not seen before and he was asking me where the hood was after the fire was out).
I'm just thankful that it was parked out under the carport and not in the garage.

Live and learn though....you can bet the bank that I'll be googling the crap out of recalls for whatever I get as a replacement.

That's too bad. Seemed like a nice truck too.
The reason that it burned so hot, was because there is magnesium in certain parts within the engine bay. Magnesium does not do well with water once burning, and you need the foam extinguisher to put it out or else it will just keep burning.
Just like the ol'e science class magnesium tape experiment.

I learned that you can contact you local Ford dealer, provide your vin, and they will advise which recall repairs have been completed on your vehicle, no matter where or when. I used the link that ManualF150 mentioned and learned that my truck has had several recall campaigns over the years. I bought my truck a couple of months ago and never would have thought of recalls until chknbone2 posted that scary fire photo......thanks guys!!!
