new owner of 1997 needs help with gas tank...

Hello: I just posted under the v6 engine section as my "new 97" has a v6. However, possibly I should post my problems and questions about my gas tank here since the truck is a 97? thanks, Mauserdoc

Thanks for replies. So the thread glc kindly moved states, my gas tank smells of gas and when i filled it up, i saw some wet gas on it after i drove. I looked under the truck, and there is nothing in the hole on top of the tank furthest toward the back of the vehicle. Looking at pictures on the net suggest to me that this is where the gas tank vapor valve goes. does that sound right? i know that is a stupid question, but I dont know much about cars and am not even a shade tree mechanic although I would like to be. I feel this is the part i need and ordered it since i posted this thread. Is this something that can be put on the vehicle without taking the gas tank off, or since it is just a valve, can it be replaced without removal of the tank?

any advice on this will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You keep saying car......you got a truck now.
I posted over in the other thread. An open hole is no good.

Big Ed: ya, the hole is scary... i posted the picture over in the thread where you asked for the same. I think this truck has been this way a long time before i got it, but am afraid to drive it until i get the issue resolved.
