HID headlights
Don't bother getting HID's. You probably have reflector housings and they wouldn't display correctly on the road, resulting to LESS light and blinding oncoming drivers because the housing cannot aim them correctly.
Look into getting or building retrofits.

HID headlights
All of what was said so far is true.
Your stock headlights are designed for halogens and have optics for halogens. Throwing HIDs in them will have the wrong optics. Thus throwing light in every direction except in places you want it. A lot of light goes into on coming traffics eyes.
Best to take some time and do some research and you'll find alot of info.
If you still want HIDs look into a projector retrofit. This will allow you to run HIDs and not blind people plus throw light where you want it. It'll cost a little more but you'll have 100x better light.

I have 8000k
I have 8000k and I love mine. I did buy new headlight casings because the old reflecting ones are just terrible. IMO, spend like $175 on casings and $60 on HIDs and get yourself a casing that looks really good. It makes a huge difference. The HIDs I have give me a brighter reflection off of the deer eyes and always a bright reflection off of street signs. Never had a problem with the cops and I even did a cat-back straight pipe so it draws more attention. HIDs either last a very long time or they die out quick. Look for at least a 1 year warranty on the kit you buy. If you install them yourself, Ford builds their headlight wiring differently in some models so you might have to do a little re-wiring. There's 3 headlight pins: Hi, Ground, Lo. Swap the Hi/Lo if needed so that your low beams are your HIDs and high beams are halogens. (HIDs come with the HID light and halogen secondaries)
If you're trying to do the lazy way you can just get a PnP kit and run them in halogen but you'll probably get a lot of hate for doing so. I went the projector route with a high quality AC ballasts. I've had a lot of vehicles with HIDs and the best advice I can give you is get a good quality kit from the beginning instead of playing the HID lottery with cheap ebay kits.
Stay away from DDM or anyone with DC ballasts. I run a $80 kit from these guys www.alphahid.com and they're AC ballasts with 3 year warranty. You might be able to find a better deal, I was recommended these guys by my mechanic and they're really high quality and good feel.
TRS is also really good quality but they're expensive (they're AC ballasts with a 3 year warranty I think).
