towing capacity

I have looked online and understand how to figure out what I need, but I can not get to a scale anytime soon.

So I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what the average weight I can tow safely behind my F150.

I have a 2000 F-150 with a trinton V8 4.6L engine.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

well a 2000 f150 4.6 is rated anywhere from it looks like 2000# to 7200# depending on cab and drivetrain configuration

You need to give the model, the trans and gear ratio to get the Gross Combined Weight rating (GCWR), first.
Then you can weigh the truck.
Subtract the trucks weight from the GCWR and that is the 'loaded' trailer weight you an tow in 'legal' terms.
.
That being said, do you have a 2wd, 4x4, super cab, super crew, with 3.55 gear, 3.73 etc.
Mostly your GCWR is in the 11,000 lb range +/-.
If towing near max. is the truck extra equipped with trans cooler, trailer controller, rated proper tires etc.
Good luck.
