Can I put a newer motor in my 97 4.2 5 spd

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and was hoping for some feed back/ advice. I have a 97, 4.2 2wd, 5 spd F150 and the motor is making some terrible noises after running for about 20min. All the mechanics I've brought it to over the years have told me that there's a hole in the the bottom of the motor and it will seize or leave me stranded very soon. That was over 4 years ago. It's still going! I rarely take it on long trips and am always cautious about what the truck is doing which makes for an uncomfortable and stressful journey; especially at stop lights or traffic. So to keep this short: I want to replace the motor, and the transmission since my clutch is going as well. Will that year of truck accept a different motor and tranny? If so; is this an easy transplant?. Any advice would help.

Thanks!

Why replace the tranny? Just swap the motors and put in a new clutch. A 99-04 engine should swap with minimum hassles.

There's a HOLE in the bottom of the motor? WTF?

Easy transplant is pretty vague. It depends on your skill and tools.
