Repaired SCAB rear door upper latches
Repaired SCAB rear door upper latches
Both of my 2002 Scab rear doors would not open and I finally got around to repairing them. I started on the passenger side door. It was a little frustrating since I had not done this repair before. But, it is a really easy repair after you figure it out. It seems the upper latch cable housing breaks and the cable can't pull the upper latch. I was able to remove the panels from the door and pull the cable to open the door with the door closed and I was sitting on the rear seat as I worked. I went to the Ford dealer and bought part number 6L3Z-18264A26-A Latch ($101 with tax)and replaced the cable/latch and the door works great. Then I removed the defective latch/cable from the drivers side door. This time I ordered the new part from Tasca Ford for $74 with shipping. The internet is a wonderful thing.
So I ordered the driver's side latch/cable last Tuesday evening and it arrived in the mail today from Tasca. I installed it and both my rear doors open again!! Tasca save me about $27 but I had to wait 5 1/2 days for the order. My truck is a backup vehicle so it wasn't a big deal to wait.
I used bicycle brake cable adjusters. The problem is the plastic on the cable that holds it to the handle brakes. This vidio showes kit sold on ebay.
This is what I used.

Props for that. Got them ordered, but had to fix some fender bender damage on the Screw first. Now I can peel open the passenger side back door and fix that latch...then do the driver's side for good measure because that's probably a matter of "when", not "if".
