2002 f 150 charging light

My Battery charging light came on, and with the engine running I removed the negative battery terminal, and engine stopped, anything else it could be, besides the alternator?

I'm pretty sure removing the negative terminal would kill everything regardless of what your charging system is doing.

That old trick of removing the POSITIVE (+) lead doesn't really apply to modern cars and can cause damaging voltage spikes. People used to do that to check the generator on old hoopties.

It's probably your alternator that failed. Take it to an auto parts store and have it checked for free.

Removing the battery ground is not a good way to check anything anymore.

Use a multimeter and check your charging system.

How many miles on your truck and how old is your battery?

Charging light

Put a new alternator on and the light is still lit, is there a voltage regulator external to the alternator?

Did you buy a new alternator without getting the old one tested? Did you have the new one bench tested before you put it on?

No external regulator.
