2001 Screw 4wd front end noise
The shocks were like $20 a piece. I don't know why I went cheap on shocks when I spent so much on everything else.
I have the same front end noise going on. Small bumps when it's colder out. Sounds like a knocking or a clunking coming from the front end. I have changed upper and lower ball joints both sides, sway bar end links, new rancho shocks and a new idler arm. Got it aligned as well. Still does it. Did it before the new parts and after. Also, my 2001 2wd did it as well. Same exact noise. I currently have a 2001 4x4. So it's a component that's common to both. I have not replaced my pitman arm, but I have a hard time thinking it's that. Tie rods seemed fine when I was in there last.
Finally I am not alone!! This noise has been plaguing my truck for quite a while.
I too had a front end alignment after I replaced all the parts and they said everything was tight.
I guess if you did shocks and it still makes the noise it must not be my problem either. Maybe lower control arm bushings. ?

What about sway bar bushings, or the bushings between the body (cab) and frame maybe?
I've had the same noises for several years now, but most of my suspension stuff is original yet at 160k. I did have both lower control arms replaced by Ford back in 2004 at 46k, turns out the issues was a tire out of balance. I replaced sway bar end links at 129k, and shocks (Monroe Reflex Monotube) at 130k, but that's it. Last summer I had my mechanic (the guy I give the really hard stuff to) look at it all, and besides the "a little play in the lower ball joints", everything else looked good and tight.
It's definitely worse in colder weather (like every creak and rattle in my truck), and sounds like it's coming from up front, but maybe not one of the items that some have mentioned replacing. I can make mine do it on a smooth surface with a quick back and forth like motion at 5-10 mph.

I suspected the sway bar bushings as well but recently I disconnected the end links and went for a drive and was getting the same noise.
You know... I noticed today I get the "noise" also on smooth surface barely creeping along. It doesn't take much to get it to make the rattle. It just sounds like something is loose and you can tell it's coming from both sides. Also I can bounce up and down on the tow hook and still here nothing. It's beginning to look like I might have to just live with it.

Found this today while changing the oil and snooping around.
CV shafts are just over a year old and the boot is tore and both make this awful noise. Driver side sounds a little worse though. This can't be normal...lol. Oh and the CV shafts are aftermarket new from Advance Auto (lifetime warranty) thankfully

Rust is definitely not an issue. This truck has 0 rust on the body. I bought it in Naples FL about 5 years ago and had everything undercoated from the inside out. Hopefully I get a chance to replace the CV axles this weekend and possibly clear up this noise.
those angles look like the torsion bars are cranked up
idler/pitman are known to thump but its usually a single thump on decel, and a thump on accel and the tires slack out or slack in

Angles do look a little off but the ride height is completely stock. The truck sits up higher in the back to. I've never had any suspension issue with any other ford truck or expedition ever. This is just baffling
The only thing I can add is Sway bar bushings , links, or The Inner cv jounts, cause they slide in and out when the truck goes up & down???? Sway bar noise is my best idea. Looks like ya did everything else. Hub caps loose?? if you have torsion bars, could be them making noise at either end??? Don't know. Wish I could hear the noise.
