Page 70 from the article (about halfway down) is an interesting article comparing the Big3 trucks with the all new 1999 tundra

Thanks, who would have guessed the 99 F150 was the fastest! The lousy brakes are a definite known.

Note the 0-60 times - the Ford 5.4 is slower than today's truck with the base V-6.

Yep, it has less horsepower. The extra low end torque (I'm assuming) doesn't make up the difference.

Also think it's funny they complained about the ride height. Aka too tall, and now new trucks are like 4" taller

4 wheel disc brakes could only manage 164' 60-0?!

Might be time for a brake upgrade...

Ford evidently didn't believe in adequate brakes back then. Maybe still don't. I do know my previous 2000 F150Scab4x4 and my present 2002 have lousy brakes. It's a common complaint going back decades with Fords of all flavors.

I'll have to go out and test drive one. Last time I test drove a new f-150 it was a 3v 5.4 that was rated with much more HP then my 99. It was a total dog in comparison to my truck though. I have a hard time believing the base V6 has come that far in 5 years.

The 08 4.2 had 202 hp and 260 tq. The 14 3.7 had 302 hp and 278 tq. The 15 3.5 NA has 282 hp and 253 tq. For comparison, the 99 5.4 had 260 hp and 350 tq. The 99 and 08 had a 4 speed auto, the 14 and 15 has a 6 speed auto.

0-60 on the 99 is 8.5, the 11 3.7 is 7.6.
