GEM module Questions
GEM module Questions
I have a 2000 f-150 automatic 4x4 and I am getting ready to replace the GEM module.
Where do I look to find what Model of Module I need?
And will a 1998-1999 module work in a 2000 F-150?

I'm in the same boat, considering replacing mine from an odd 4wd problem. From what I've found, the 97-98s can be switched if the PN matches. The 99-00 at the least can be interchanged. You'll need to pull the fuse box/gem assembly out of the truck to unbolt the GEM and get the PN. It's on sticker that's on the fuse box side and can't be seen unless you take them apart. Mine has the PN and 'Pick-up Electronic 4x4' right on the PN sticker.
My 99 us XL34-14B205-CB and can be interchanged with a couple others from what I've found. Same first 9 characters, but ending in CA and BA (from what I've read, don't trust me). From a 00, YL34014B205-CB interchanges.
Good luck.

my gem blew out on my 97 f150 - causing my wipers an interior light to not function- instead of laying out $ 250 + for a replacement module - I rewired the wipers with a 30a 3way switch & inline 30a fuse - then wired the washer to another button switch total cost 25.00 plus 1hr time

My story goes like this:
1. Windows quit working, ignored the problem for over a year until other problems started popping up.
2. Ford using their diagnostic equipment said GEM was bad, I said ok, $700 later. Still didn't work.
Now their diagnostic equipment said the fuse box was bad, I said ok, $600 later. Still didn't work.
3. Now I replaced both electric door motors, $325 later, IT WORKS !!!!
Letting them go unrepaired for over a year was my fault. I know its an old truck, but its been a good truck for me, and I couldn't have sold it for much without fixing it.
