5.4 motor swap help

Hello I've had issues with low compression and not firing properly in cylinder#1 and plugs blowing out on #2 #6. It seems to just keep happening it is my understanding that these heads are just junk. I have a 2001 5.4 so here's my question if i just swapped out motors with the same motor would the same stuff happen? What causes it? How can I prevent it from happening?
Meanwhile I want to rebuild the existing motor for better performance and such.
Any advice as to what to look for in the "new" used motor I should be concerned with?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Torqueing the plugs to a proper 28 ft/lbs dry would eliminate the plug blow out problem. Or upgrade to a 5.4 from a late model 03 with the revised heads.

Heads are far from junk. The correct torque is all over the net and has been for awhile. But, your heads may be damaged from letting it go so long with loose plugs. If they blew out, they were loose for awhile before that happened. That's what trashes the threads. You may need to Time sert now.
