ac compressor

2000 f150 4.6l serpentine belt broke and replaced. now the ac compressor clutch is clicking way louder than normal. is this an indication of clutch failure or low freon? ac is still cooling. any ideas?

From: Easton, Pa.
It could be the clutch bearing.
Not usually any charge or performance issue.
It could be the belt.
As it runs over a spot in the A/C pulley it can tend to stick.
When it passes a certain position, the belt can make a clicking noise when the belt is forced to let loose.
Inspect the A/C pulley for residual rubber from the old belt stuck fast.
if yes remove it with a small tool.
If no, remove bely and feel the A/C pulley for rough rotation or looseness.

ac compressor

Bluegrass, Thanks for the help. There was no residual belt on the ac pulley however there was some slack on the clutch/bearing. With the ac blowing cold here in Alabama I'm going to wait for the whole compressor to go out since I'm living on borrowed time with 262K miles.
